When a man is in love, he can suddenly take off his stern face and act like a kid again. He can make weird, little noises while he tickles his girl; blow up his cheeks with air and make monkey faces; blow into her belly and make those fart sounds. He can be silly, yet be serious when needed. More than anything, he can tell her that he’ll love her forever, even if he doesn’t know how the future will try to break his relationship. What’s important, though, is that as lovey-dovey as it all sounds, he indulges in it, and believes in it enough to put in the effort to make it last.

Stories you read when you’re the right age never quite leave you. You may forget who wrote them or what the story was called. Sometimes you’ll forget precisely what happened, but if a story touches you it will stay with you, haunting the places in your mind that you rarely ever visit.
